Jeep needs no introduction. it’s an icon of freedom, adventure, adrenaline and toughness, a war hero. It’s part of our lives, part of modern history. Every new car they make it’s a symbol of authenticity but also a peak of more than 70 years of innovation in offroad vehicles. Like the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, the most awarded all-terrain vehicle in the world. Only an unconventional banner could honour this epic car.

So we played hard. We developed a special banner that captured by itself what this car meant for car or even mankind history. Through a smarter use of “pop unders” -a bad advertising practice, but used in a good way- the banner interacted with your history record to discover yourself how much in common you had with the new Grand Cherokee and drove the user to a microsite where the experience get richer.

The banner

It all started with a seemingly normal video banner. The commercial told the story

of how 70 years of innovation had led Jeep to the new 2014 Grand Cherokee.

Zoom Translation:

“New Grand Cherokee 2014 is more than 70 years old”.

The trick

The banner used user’s click not only to play the video but also to launch unnoticed pop-unders. That way we could sneak into user’s browsing history.

Zoom Translation:

“Check it in your History”.

The surprise

When the user checked his browser history he could discover that we had already shared some “history”. Each link led to a relevant history period and the user could see what he had in common with Jeep and the new grand Cherokee at that time

Zoom Translation:

Menu: “History”

Pointer: “Jeep in the 60s”
